Lets be ralistic, most of us locksmiths are small buisnessmen or woman and we just dont have the buying power of the Big Box stores. As a mater of fact most of the locking hardware sold at the big box stores is cheaper in there store than we pay at a wholesale distributor. So we cannot compete apple to apple. But the biggest advantage we offer to our customers is that long lost term "Customer Service". Not only do most locksmith sell and install, repair and replace. We also stand behind our work, We know most of our customers by first name. We truly care about our customers and our workmanship. Most Locksmiths in The Valley have been around along time and those of us who have employees keep them around a while. I have been a locksmith since I was 16 ,thats 25 years.
How many times have you taken a copied key back to those multi purpose stores? Have you ever tried a lock shop?
Sure our keys are a little higher, thats because if we screw up a key we by it. But they work when you get home. So you can save $.75 and make 3 trips to OSH or pay the $.75 and save time and gas. How can you put a price on experience.
While I am on my soap box I want to warn everyone about those Locksmith Brokers in the yellow pages and on line.
Why on earth would you call a 1-800 number and speak to someone on New York and ask then to send out a Locksmith? Especially when just 3 ads down is a local guy who is ready willing and probably able.
Find out were you are calling. Get a local address, check thier California Locksmith and Contarctor Lic. It appears that they have a network of usually cheap in-experienced folks with no credentials. Who can charge up to 5 times more for emergency service. Do you want a untrackable stranger in your home maybee keeping a key.
